"High-Speed Signal Transfer Challenges for High-Speed Communication Building Blocks"

The need for higher-speed signal transfer systems in advanced embedded systems evident.
In the context of data transport within integrated circuits (Systems-on-Chip (SoC)
and Networks-on-Chip (NoC)) an overview of the current developments in technology and design,
ranging from CMOS technology over circuit design, synchronization up to communication protocols
is given. Finally a case study of DRAM data transfer evolution towards high speed memory systems
is presented and the pros and cons of the individual ingredients are discussed.
PROF. DR. KLAUS HOFMANN
studied electrical engineering at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum/Germany und
Purdue University West Lafayette, IN, USA., receiving his Dipl.-Ing. Degree in 1992.
From 1993 to 1997 he has been research associate at Darmstadt University of Technology,
where he received his Ph.D. degree in 1997.
In the period from 1998 to 2009 he worked in industry at Siemens AG, Infineon Technologies AG,
Qimonda AG, München und Suzhou (V.R. China), finally as director of product development.
Since 3/2009 he is full professor at Darmstadt University of Technology/Germany and
head of the Integrated Electronics Systems Lab.
